#6 Case Study: A Deeper Analysis

ARDS 315H3 – Honors Methods Design Inquiry

Week 8

After meeting with Kim Furlong, Sophie and I realized the objective of this case study was to focus less on the actual writings of the capstone, and, instead, we should focus more on the sources and methodology. Important things to note about the capstone, ““The Evolution of Place and Neighborhood Identity in Boyle Heights” by Isai Castaneda, were the literature review section, the bibliography, and how those aspects informed the structure of the paper. We are supposed to be using these areas to make informed assumptions about the methodology. Then we take what we learned and present this to the class so they can expand their own ideas of what their methodology for their capstone can look like.

Sophie and I decided to then break down our presentation into two sections: structure and bibliography. She focuses on the big picture: paper structure, topic refinement, and methodology. She is tasked with displaying how the paper is set up and what we’ve learned from this setup. I am tasked with doing the bibliography analysis. I am taking the extensive source lists and breaking them down into their key characteristics. From there, assumptions can be made about what was most used and what was most helpful for this kind of capstone research.

I think this will be most beneficial for myself because research has been a struggle for me. I will likely use ideas for different places to find sources and also the variety of what is useful in this type of research.
