ARDS 315H3 – Honors Methods Design Inquiry
Week 5
I must admit, with travel week and the snow days, this class has been put on my back burner. However, with some relaxation and time dedicated to other classes, I know I now need to put priority in this class, so that’s what I am doing here. I have two other blog posts to write to catch up, so I will document where I am at and my plan to move forward (as I should have been doing).
The last time the class met in person, we presented an update for our research questions. I really think I’m struggling to form a research question till I have an adequate amount of research. At the same time, I’m struggling to do said research because I don’t have a detailed idea of what I want to research. It is quite a conundrum, but I digress.
For class, I presented these updated questions:
- What can non-Western cultures offer to Western landscape design, with a focus on religious sites and monuments?
- Cross-culture analysis looking at specific key religious monuments and their landscape design. Consider how the culture and time-period informed the landscape material, orientation, and other key elements. Look into religious practices and their tie to the landscape construction, geometry, and other natural elements
- How can landscape design better support marginalized people, so they can find community through place-making?
- Dive into the history of how people and politics have betrayed marginalized people, which has caused them to not trust the landscape. Look at what is being done today to help mitigate these issues, and maybe what could be improved upon.

Action Plan:
After publishing this blog, I am going to research both areas and report back. After writing my fourth blog, I will move into researching for my case study and write about that in blog five!
Hello Hello, Welcome back.
It’s tough when you’re in that limbo of needing research to form your questions, but needing the questions to essentially guide your research. It’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation. Rn, I don’t have much help with your question but what I do have are two links Daniel recommended fo rme to use.
The first is ScholarWorks@UARK, which is essentially where you can find alot of the past published U of A papers.
The second is Connected Papers | Find and explore academic papers. Additionally, if you need a site to find bootlegged research papers that you would otherwise need to pay for just let me know. I can hook you up.
